Veritas Netback Engineer

Job Overview

A Veritas NetBackup Engineer designs, implements, manages, and troubleshoots enterprise data backup and recovery solutions, focusing on Veritas NetBackup software, appliances (like Flex 5340/5250), and storage (Data Domain) to ensure data protection, integrity, and disaster recovery across Windows, Linux, and virtual environments. Key duties involve configuring policies, monitoring jobs, resolving failures, performing restores, optimizing storage, managing tape libraries, and collaborating with other IT teams for data availability and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Installation & Configuration: Deploy and configure Veritas NetBackup, including master/media servers, agents, and appliances.
• Policy & Schedule Management: Create, manage, and optimize backup policies, schedules, and storage lifecycle policies (SLPs).
• Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor jobs, diagnose failures, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and resolve issues.
• Restore Operations: Execute data restores for various platforms (SQL, Oracle, file systems) and test disaster recovery plans.
• Performance Optimization: Tune backup performance, manage deduplication/replication, and optimize storage utilization.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and provide regular reports.
• Collaboration: Work with system admins, application teams, and vendors for effective data protection.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

• Core: Deep expertise in Veritas NetBackup, backup/restore, tape management, deduplication, and encryption.
• Technical: Strong knowledge of Windows, Linux, UNIX, VMware, Veritas Appliances (5250/5340), Dell EMC Data Domain, and scripting (CMD/Shell).
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Experience: Proven experience in large-scale enterprise backup environments.
