Desktop Support Engineer

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:

• Installation and Configuration:

  Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, software applications, peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.), and networking equipment. 

• User Support:

  Provide technical assistance to users via phone, email, remote access, or in-person, guiding them through troubleshooting steps and solutions. 

• System Maintenance:

  Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as system updates, software upgrades, and security patching, to ensure optimal system performance. 

• Documentation:

  Maintain accurate records of support requests, solutions, and system configurations using ticketing systems or other documentation methods. 

• Hardware and Software Management:

  Manage hardware and software inventory, track assets, and assist with procurement and deployment of new equipment. 

• Escalation:

  Escalate complex or unresolved issues to higher-level support teams or specialized engineers. 

• Communication:

  Communicate effectively with users, explaining technical issues in a clear and understandable manner, and providing timely updates on problem resolution. 

• Training:

  Train users on basic computer usage, software applications, and best practices for using technology. 

• Security:

  Ensure the security of computer systems and data by implementing and enforcing security policies and procedures.

• Troubleshooting:

  Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues for end-users. This includes on-site and remote troubleshooting, using various tools and techniques. 

Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Proficiency:

  Strong knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), networking concepts, and common applications. 

• Troubleshooting Skills:

  Ability to diagnose and resolve a wide range of technical issues, using various troubleshooting techniques and tools. 

• Communication Skills:

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with users and other IT professionals. 

• Problem-Solving Skills:

  Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions. 

• Customer Service Skills:

  Ability to provide excellent customer service, demonstrating patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. 

• Time Management:

  Ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

• Adaptability:

  Ability to adapt to new technologies and evolving IT environments.
