Meet the Mentor(s)
Prabir Kumar Biswas, FNAE, is a senior professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. He has published numerous research papers and books on Computer Vision, Image Processing and Machine Learning. Professor Biswas is a Humboldt Fellow and a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering. He has spearheaded the development of several technologies used by industry as well as research labs.
Pawan Goyal is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. He has received the Indian National Academy of Engineering Young Engineer Award and the Google AIML Research Award for his contribution towards research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. Professor Goyal has published numerous research articles on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. He is among the most popular teachers at IIT Kharagpur.
Pabitra Mitra is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. He has published several papers and books on Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition. He has also received the INAE Young Engineer Award and IBM Faculty Award. Professor Mitra was a member of the AICTE committee for AIML curriculum.
Professor Niloy Ganguly is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur and a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Engineering. He was a visiting professor at Leibniz University Hannover for two years (2021-2022). He also spent two years as a Research Scientist at TU Dresden, Germany, before joining IIT Kharagpur in 2005, and rose to the rank of Professor in 2014. He has done his B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and his PhD from IIEST, Shibpur.
Dr. Abir Das is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. Before joining IIT Kharagpur, he was briefly an assistant professor at IIIT Delhi. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Boston University under Prof. Kate Saenko before that. He graduated from the University of California at Riverside (UCR) with a PhD in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Amit Kumar Roy-Chowdhury, who led the 'Video Computing Group', served as his research advisor. Before joining UCR, he had completed his B.E.E from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 2007.
Dr. Sourangshu Bhattacharya is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. Before joining IIT Kharagpur, he was a scientist at Yahoo! Labs Bangalore and a visiting scholar at the Helsinki University of Technology. He has a PhD in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore , and an M.Tech in Computer Science from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and a B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
Dr. Koustav Rudra is an assistant professor of the AI Centre at IIT Kharagpur. Prior to joining IIT Kharagpur, he was an assistant professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad. Earlier, he was a postdoctoral researcher at L3S Research Center, Leibniz University Hannover, and Northwestern University. He received his PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. He was a part of the Complex Network Research Group (CNeRG) at IIT Kharagpur.
Dr. Jiaul Hoque Paik is an assistant professor at the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CoEAI), IIT Kharagpur. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at The University of Maryland, College Park, USA. He has completed his PhD from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, in 2011.
Dr. Plaban Bhowmick is an assistant professor at the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CoEAI) and G. S. Sanyal School of Telecommunication, IIT Kharagpur. Before joining IIT Kharagpur, he worked as a research scientist in TCS Innovation Labs for two years. He has completed his PhD and MS degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and completed his B.Tech degree from the University of Calcutta.
Dr. Saptarshi Ghosh is an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. His primary research interests are in Legal Data Analytics, Social Network Analysis, and Algorithmic Bias and Fairness. His research is interdisciplinary and uses techniques from Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, Computational Social Science, and Complex Network Theory. He heads a Max Planck Partner Group at IIT Kharagpur, that focuses on algorithmic bias and fairness. He received his PhD in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur in 2013. He was a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS), Germany.
Dr. Buddhananda Banerjee is an associate professor at the Department of Mathematics, IIT Kharagpur. He completed his PhD at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. Before that, he completed his masters degree from IIT Kharagpur and bachelors degree from the University of Calcutta.
Indrajit Bhattacharya is a principal scientist at TCS Research and leads the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Research Group. Indrajit obtained his Masters Degree and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and completed his B.Tech in CSE from IIT Kharagpur in 1999. Before joining TCS, Indrajit worked at IBM Research India and Indian Institute of Science. He is also currently working as a VP of the India Chapter of ACM SIGKDD (IKDD), an associate editor for Communications of the ACM and a member of Board of Governors at IIIT, Guwahati.
Rajdeep Mukherjee is a Senior AI Research Scientist with NielsenIQ. Prior to joining NielsenIQ, he interned at Amazon Science and IBM Research. He recently completed his PhD from the Department of CSE, IIT Kharagpur, primarily focusing on Natural Language Processing (NLP). He has extensively worked on domain-specific text summarization, aspect-based sentiment analysis, and using Large Language Models (LLMs) for solving E-commerce problems, and extreme classification in the finance domain. Currently at NielsenIQ, he is working on AI/NLP solutions for facilitating automation in market research. His research interests include Industry-grade Attribute-Value Prediction, Extreme Multi-label Classification, Numeracy and Faithfulness issues in LLMs, Generalization and Scalability of solutions for Information Extraction tasks using Instruction Tuning, and Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning.
Dr. Brojeshwar Bhowmick is a principal scientist leading the research in the area of Visual Computing and Embodied AI at TCS Research. His current research focuses on building interactive 3D digital representation (world model) of a physical world and humans which an embodied agent can use to reason, act, plan and collaborate with human autonomously. Over the years, he has been developing many novel solutions in variety of areas in Computer Vision, Graphics and Machine Learning. He is a recipient of the best paper award in ICVGIP 2018 and 2021, best demo award at ICDCN 2020, patent champion award at TCS Research in 2016 and a special mention Young IT Professional award by Computer Society of India in 2008. He has published over 60 research papers in the areas of Computer Vision, Graphics, AI and Robotics and has more than 30 granted patents.
Bishal Santra is a research engineer at Microsoft Research India, where he focuses on leveraging Large Language Models for developing better information retrieval systems. His expertise lies in natural language understanding, response generation, and evaluation of dialog systems - the core areas of his PhD thesis ("From Dialogue Representation to Response Generation: Deep Learning Techniques for Effective Dialogue Modeling") at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur's Department of Computer Science and Engineering. His research has been featured in prominent conferences like ACL, NAACL, and EMNLP. He is a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF 2018) and is a member of the Complex Network Research Group (CNeRG).
Dr. Abhijnan Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. Until recently, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi. His research interests fall under the broad area of Responsible AI, with specific focus on Fairness in Algorithmic Decision Making. He has earlier worked at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems in Saarbrucken, Germany and Microsoft Research in Bangalore. During PhD, he was awarded with Google PhD Fellowship and the Prime Minister's Fellowship for Doctoral Research. Abhijnan is a Young Associate of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). He regularly publishes and serves in the programme committees of top-tier computer science conferences including WWW, AAAI, KDD, IJCAI, AAMAS, CSCW and ICWSM. He has won the IEI Young Engineers Award in 2023, the INAE Young Engineer award in 2022, the best paper award at ASONAM'16 and best poster award at ECIR'19 conference. Dr. Somdyuti Paul is an Assistant Professor at the Centre of Excellence in AI, IIT Kharagpur since September 2023. Prior to joining IIT Kharagpur as an Assistant Professor, she worked as an Applied Scientist at Amazon Prime Video at Seattle, USA. She received a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, USA in 2022. Somdyuti’s research areas span Image and Video Processing, Computer Vision and Machine Learning (ML). She has developed ML-based models to optimise the performance of several key processes involved in traditional block-based hybrid video compression. She has also worked on visual quality assessment of real and synthetic images. Somdyuti has also developed AI/ML based models that enable personalised discovery, promotion and moderation of visual content, which have been successfully deployed in Amazon Prime Video.

This certificate programme is envisaged to help build a strong foundation across various streams through live lectures, hands-on implementation of machine learning algorithms, assignments, quizzes, industry use cases and mentorship of renowned industry and IIT Kharagpur faculty members. Learners will also get an opportunity to showcase their skills to potential recruiters.

The certificate programme will provide learners with an opportunity to learn and interact with the experts and get certified by AI4ICPS IIT Kharagpur. This programme will be a combination of 20% theory and 80% practicals (truly implementing hands-on/experiential learning paradigm).

The duration of this programme is 3 months, where live lectures are planned every Saturday for 4 hours in the span of 14 weeks, including hands-on and doubt clearing sessions.
- Certificate of Participation (CoP): The Certificate of Participation will be given to all the participants, irrespective whether they have attended all the quizzes and submitted all the assignments.
- Certificate of Completion (CoC): The Certificate of Completion will be given to those participants who have attended all the quizzes and submitted all the assignments.
- Certificate of Merit (CoM): The Certificate of Merit will be given to the top 10% performers on the basis of their quiz and assignments marks. There will be a CoM ceremony at the IIT Kharagpur campus where the participants will receive the hard copy of the CoM certificates.
