Course Summary

The Design Thinking - Practitioner's Perspective course provides a foundation to aspiring students who want to understand design, innovation by design research and basics of design research that are essential for design consultancy and entrepreneurship. It explores how design thinking flows into iterative, back and forth stages to address the challenges and issues discovered, through a meticulous and empathetic inquiry with the user. The course familiarises students with design lifecycle, user studies, data collection, interpretation and data analysis methods along with creating design solutions, prototyping and evaluation methods and tools. Illustrated case studies, gamified user study techniques and the knowledge gained on sustainable and responsible design give students a broader understanding of the multidisciplinary subject.

Basic knowledge of surfing the Internet and the English language is required for taking up this course.

The course syllabus will be delivered through a combination of eLearning resources, digital lectures, community based digital classrooms as applicable.

Certificate Eligibility Criteria

  1. Students who successfully clear the summative assessment and meet each of the following criteria will receive a 'Certificate of Achievement'.
    Part B
    Score is greater than or equal to 50%

    Overall assessment score is greater than or equal to 50%, which includes the following components and weightage:

    Component Weightage
    Part A Assessment 30%
    Part B Assessment 50%
    Periodic Formative Assessment 10%
    Class Participation* 10%
  2. * Class participation to consist of the below parameters with the given weightage:
    Component Weightage
    Attendance in Digital Lectures 5%
    % Consumption of Digital Content 2.5%
    Vibrancy Score in Community 2.5%

    100% Completion of the course (which includes Digital Content, Digital Lectures, and Modular Assignments)

  1. Students who have not taken the summative assessment or do not meet the criteria mentioned in point (a) but have completed the course 100% (which includes the digital content, digital lectures, modular assignments and periodic formative assessment) will receive the 'Certificate of Participation'.
  2. Students who have taken the summative assessment and have failed to clear it, will receive only a performance 'Scorecard'.
  3. Students who do not meet any of the above criteria will not receive any certificate or scorecard.
