Course Summary

Initially, automated mechanical systems used to perform repetitive manufacturing operations by employing gears and cams. Thereafter the use of electronics-based control systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) has revolutionised these concepts by using relays, timers, electronic circuits, and computer programming. Control Systems and PLCs are especially designed to operate in noisy industrial environments. They control the operation of electrical drives with accurate timing, and in a defined sequence by using solid-state devices. According to a report published by Ken Research, the Indian industrial automation market is expected to reach US$197 billion by 2020 with growth driven by the rapid adoption of modern technology backed by cost-saving features.
