Course Summary

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is well established as one of the main manufacturing methods in the industry. Its application is moving from the traditional rapid prototyping world to the manufacturing of end-use parts. Part designers should have deep understanding of AM technologies, commercially available 3D printers and their capabilities and limitations, feasible materials and grades, and design for Additive Manufacturing guidelines. Designers need to design the part with the least amount of material using advanced design methods like topology optimisation, lattice design and generative design. After the design process, the best possible orientation for 3D printing and part nesting strategy is to build economic needs. There is nothing like applying the learning to use through a pilot project and in this course every learner needs to design and manufacture a part using one of the AM technologies at the end of the course which gives them the experience of practical application.
